What is Depression?

A range of factors, including biological factors (such as genetics and hormones), environmental factors (such as stressful events), and lifestyle choices, can cause it.

Islam believes in the healing power of prayer. Muslims perform five daily prayers, which are considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Prayers are believed to help connect Muslims with God, who is said to be all-powerful and able to help them through their struggles. The Quran also mentions that God has prescribed for humans seven times prostration (sujood) during the day and night, which is believed to help improve mental health.

What are the Symptoms of Depression?

Depression is a mental health condition characterized by feelings of sadness and emptiness. It can cause people to lose interest in activities they used to enjoy and lead to weight loss or weight gain.

The symptoms of depression are different for everyone. A psychiatrist or psychologist can diagnose depression after assessing the person’s symptoms, physical health, family history, and personal history.

· Feeling sad or irritable most of the day; feeling hopeless, guilty, or worthless;

· Loss of interest in activities once enjoyed; feeling restless and agitated;

· Sleeping too much or too little; having trouble concentrating on tasks;

· Fatigue and lack of energy

What Causes Depression?

Depression is an illness that is usually caused by a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors.

The most common symptoms are a low mood and lack of energy. Other symptoms can include trouble sleeping or eating properly. A person suffering from depression may also have feelings of guilt or worthlessness.

How Can You Overcome Depression with the help of Islam?

Depression is a mental illness characterized by feelings of sadness, worthlessness, and hopelessness. It can affect people of any age, race, or social class. Depression is also one of the leading causes of disability worldwide.

However, Islam provides a framework to overcome depression. Islam teaches people to be patient and content with what Allah has decreed for them and to trust in His mercy. One can also defeat depression by reciting Surah Duha daily.

The Quran also tells us that Allah loves those who are patient and gives glad tidings to those who persevere patiently:

“Allah loves the steadfast” (Quran 2:153)
